Case Manager Trainee (Part-Time)

Starting Salary range: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour

This position will be responsible for conducting intakes, assisting clients, scheduling intervention classes, case reviews, appointments, requesting status updates from other ASAPs, preparing court reports, checking Traffic Records Electronic Data System (TREDS) for ignition interlock compliance, return telephone calls, document and update all pertinent information in multiple data bases; request and write legible and concise reports, document treatment and status reports received, in addition to other duties as assigned. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Case Manager Supervisor.

Technical Tasks:

    • Provides group orientation and individual interviewing of new clients entering the Peninsula ASAP.
    • Refers clients to local treatment modalities and/or assigns to education class as appropriate.
    • Receives and monitors all cases referred and provides reports at the request of the court.
    • Maintain confidential agreement between clients and PASAP,
    • Provide prompt and accurate information to courts regarding client’s compliance status when necessary; make court appearances to offer testimony as required.
    • Assists clients and their families in locating and obtaining local resources designed to bring about rehabilitation.
    • Performs all related tasks of a Case Manager under supervision.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Exceptional organizational and planning skills.
    • Able to work independently with little to no supervision.
    • By-lingual in English Language and Spanish Language preferred (but not necessary). General experience and/or knowledge of the Criminal Justice System; experience and/or knowledge in techniques of counseling, instructing, or teaching adults. Related knowledge in alcohol or drugs use, prevention, treatment and/or rehabilitation.
    • General experience and/or knowledge of the techniques and means of interviewing and determining clients risk classification.
    • General experience and/or knowledge of laws pertaining to substance abuse.
    • General experience and/or knowledge of casework methods and practices.
    • Ability to maintain objectivity while conducting interviews and investigations and analyze attitudes and behavior problems.
    • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, especially in court room settings.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, courts, law enforcement personnel, clients and/or any citizen while representing Peninsula ASAP.
    • Ability to work under pressure for submission of timely reports and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
    • Must be computer literate with experience in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher), experience working with Adobe documents, virtual meeting software (example: Zoom, GoToMeeting, Google meets)

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited college with major work in social work, counseling, psychology, criminal justice, or related field. Experience in substance abuse prevention, treatment or rehabilitation preferred.

Peninsula ASAP is a government agency that provides probationary and court services for jurisdictions on the Virginia Peninsula. We are looking for motivated volunteers to perform daily administrative duties in our agency. General Statement of Responsibilities:

Responsible for providing various clerical support duties for the Peninsula ASAP office, and specifically front office receptionist duties.

Typical Tasks:

Serves as receptionist for the Peninsula ASAP office

Screens visitors and maintain a written log of all clients who visit the office

Answers the telephone for the office; ascertains the nature of the call and refers to the appropriate person, or provides information in response to general questions, takes and refers messages as appropriate

Performs a variety of typing functions including typing correspondence, court reports, envelopes, and, labels

Maintain up to date mailing addresses

Assists with paperwork portion of urine drug screens collections

Assists with intake paperwork and setting up files

Performs other related work as required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of the operations and clerical activity related to Peninsula ASAP (or sufficient education or experience to quickly learn);

Thorough knowledge of office practices;

Thorough knowledge of business English;

Effective oral communication skills;

Ability to read and understand written instructions;

Ability to deal effectively and respectfully with the public

Ability to understand verbal instructions;

Ability to learn to operate a personal computer and other electronic equipment;

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent and two to four years of related responsible clerical experience. Up to 60 hours of related college coursework may be substituted for the experience requirements on an equivalent time basis. The candidate must be able to successfully pass a criminal background investigation, including a DMV record check and drug screen.
